Pocket Query From A Bookmark List
How to use a bookmark list to generate a pocket query each week. Includes video.
Welcome to the first tutorial on how to get better use out of the data from geocaching.com using Cache901. This particular tutorial does not deal with Cache901 itself, and as such can be used with GSAK, GeoBuddy, and any other GPX reading program.
In this tutorial, we are going to explore how to get specific caches that are not normally in your Pocket Queries sent to you on a regular basis. This will allow you to easily retrieve updates that you would not normally get without visiting the page for the cache and downloading the GPX file manually. Since this feature uses Pocket Queries, you must be a premium member of geocaching.com to benefit from this tutorial.
Take the following steps:
- Get to geocaching.com and get yourself logged in, as shown here
- Once you are logged in, go to your account page, and scroll down to manage bookmarks, as shown here
- Create a bookmark list, giving it a name of your choosing, as shown here
- Set the options for the bookmark list. Personally, for this list, I leave all the checkboxes turned off, and don't bother with a description. All of which is shown here
- Once the bookmark list is created, go to "Hide & Seek A Cache". Fill in the search box that will take you to the cache you are interested in. In my case, I'm looking at a cache called "The Abyss", located relatively nearby. It's a 7 stage multi that I will get around to doing someday. The search is shown here
- Once you are viewing the cache page, click on "bookmark listing", as shown here
- Make sure to set the bookmark list to the list you are making, as shown here, and then click "Create Bookmark"
- Once you've added all the caches to the bookmark list, visit the "Bookmark Lists" from your account page again, and click "Create Pocket Query", as shown here. Note: This is not something you can do from the Pocket Queries page right now. It can only be done from the "Bookmark Lists" page.
- Name the Pocket Query, specify which days to run it, and how to run it (run and delete the query, uncheck it, run it weekly). Personally, I choose to run the Pocket Query weekly. This ensures that I get updated data on these caches weekly, allowing me to make sure I get the latest easily. Finally, click "Submit Information" to generate the Pocket Query. Again, image shown here.
Finally, we have made a video of this tutorial and placed it on youtube. It's 3:20 long, so it might well be of interest to you.
