Features
A listing of what we have now, and what we will have at various points in the future.
This program is being built to shine best on netbooks (those little 9 inch notebooks). Extremely portable devices, and very handy. It will still work (and work well) on other systems, both desktop and laptop. However, the windows are all being built around the idea that the screen will only be as big as those small screens, so I have to make judicious use of screen real estate. As a result, you won't see everything visible simultaneously, but you will see all the information in an easily accessible manner.
Another feature of note, but not one that is listed below: The entire program is Free Software. It will cost you nothing to download and use. Furthermore, you will have access to all of the source code for the program, can modify it, and can even change and redistribute it. It is licensed under the GNU General Public License, v2 or greater.
The current features of Cache 901 are these:
- All data stored in an SQLite database for fast searching and indexing
- GPX files, and Zip files containing GPX files, are easily imported from local disk; email accounts (both POP3 and IMAP) are supported fully as well
- Basic and advanced searches built in, allowing you to search for something as simple as names, or as complicated as "Caches within 10 miles of my GPS location that I have not found, have travel bugs, are of terrain >= 3, difficulty <= 4, have a large container, that were last updated in the last 7 days, and are of a specific type" (for example). Searches can be made very complex, or very simplistic.
- You can save the searches, so that you can re-run them with a couple of clicks.
- Can read current position from an attached GPS device
- Can send individual caches/waypoints to a GPS
- You can set up multiple search origin points, so that you can search from near to different places
- The currently displayed list of caches can be displayed as a map (though not with any actual map behind it, it just shows relative location of caches. Future updates will integrate with some mapping service to provide actual maps you can use)
- You can attach photos and notes to a cache, allowing you to solve complex multis more easily, or just keep photos of particularly memorable caches.
- You can enter your own log into Cache901, and it will store it for easy upload to geocaching.com. We even have permission from geocaching.com to allow you to upload your logs directly from Cache901.
- CacheDay: A totally new feature that lets you set up a list of caches and waypoints, in the order they are to be visited, and even send it to your GPS as a route. This allows you to set up a day for being out with friends, caching the day away, well in advance. Furthermore, CacheDays are automatically saved as searches, letting you easily reduce your list of caches and waypoints to just the ones relevant to your for the day.
- Read email
- Read from specifed folder on disk
- Support logging multiple accounts, including team accounts
- Import of gpx/zip files from dragging them onto window
